The Queen Palm Tree is very popular in Southwest Florida and loved by homeowners and commercial landscapers alike. With its sweeping, graceful fronds swaying from side to side and its the smooth gray trunk, the Syagrus romanzoffiana is perfect for just about any landscaping project you can think of. Ranging in use from lining driveways, accenting a yard, or as a centerpiece to your ornamental garden, the Syagrus romanzoffiana can be found all over the area, including Cape Coral, Pine Island, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, and Naples.
The Queen palm can reach heights of 40 feet, maybe more under the right conditions. It does well as a standalone palm or grouped together with other Queen palms. They grow relatively quickly in full sun and moist soil. They will do well in partial sun, but likely won’t reach 40 feet as quickly. To help it along, we recommend fertilizing this beauty three times a year, in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.
While the Queen’s palm is not necessarily self-cleaning like the Foxtail Palm, the dead fronds will fall off eventually, but to speed up the process, a quick trimming might be in order.
The Syagrus romanzoffiana boasts an edible fruit that is sweet and soft. Just peel away the green covering and underneath will be a coconut-like shell. These fruits will fall to the ground once ripe and will be a tasty addition to your palette!
We recommend surrounding the Queen palm with low to medium-height bushes or flowers, like the Hibiscus or Jasmine but, of course, they look great on their own. If you love the look of this beautiful palm tree, check out the Royal Palm Tree for similar applications.
