Description of Montgomery Palm Tree

Another beautiful palm for Southwest Florida, the Montgomery Palm is a great choice for landscapers and homeowners alike. With its slim trunk, much like the Christmas palm, it will fit in places that other palms cannot. The Montgomery’s leaves are a bit longer and hang more like a canopy than the Christmas palm does. Other than that, the two palms look pretty similar at first glance.

Commonly found alongside driveways, lining properties, or as centerpieces for circular driveways in Cape Coral, Pine Island, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, and Naples. The Veitchia montgomeryana looks great as a standalone palm or surrounded by flowering bushes, like the cocoplum or among the clusia bush.

The Montgomery Palm Tree Is Self Cleaning

The Veitchia montgomeryana boasts a beautiful canopy consisting of 8 to 10 fronds at a time. To maintain its beauty, we recommend feeding it palm fertilizer at least three times a year and ensure that it gets plenty of water. Try to keep the soil moist but not over watered. They also prefer full sun and will grow faster if it is not in the shade, but will still do well there. Also, this palm is self-cleaning!

Fortunately, this palm does well in our mild winters here in Southwest Florida. With our drier, cooler conditions, the Montgomery Palm Tree does well in drought conditions after it has become established. The Montgomery Palm will likely survive the rare cold snap we sometimes experience but you may notice a little browning along some of the leaves. But do not worry, they will turn green again before you know it!
